Game Report: U18’s vs Killamarsh Derbyshire Arrows
Saturday 25th November saw Ilkeston’s U18’s hosting 2nd place “Killamarsh Derbyshire Arrows. Outlaws got off to a steady start in a bid to contain a strong Arrows side. Baskets were traded at both ends fairly evenly. A small flurry mid quarter by Outlaws and some poor free throw shooting by both sides saw Outlaws ending the quarter ahead by 5. Outlaws 19 – 14 Arrows.
The second quarter saw Arrows make quick start to clear the deficit, and race to score 14 unanswered points. Struggling to close out some good 3 point shooting Outlaws were being put under a lot of pressure to reply. Ilkeston’s shooting was not of the same quality and missed shots were rebounded well by the Arrows big men. Not able to make any further dent in the Arrows quarter score, Outlaws ended the half being outscored by 15 points. Outlaws 30 – 40 Arrows.
The third quarter started well for Outlaws as the defence looked a little stronger and much tighter than the previous quarter. Nipping back a basket here and there saw Outlaws getting back to within 4 points. A change of personnel by Arrows to attack the inside of the key allowed them to pull ahead again scoring the last 7 points of the quarter. Outlaws 44 – 55 Arrows.
The final quarter saw the battle get even tougher with players putting their bodies on the line and diving on every loose ball. Both teams had spells of success with the game ebbing and flowing. Arrows found their range again from the three point line as a weary 8 man Outlaws team battled to stay in the game. Eventually Arrows were too strong and matched the Outlaws scoring rate eventually running out the final quarter 21 to 24.
Final Score Outlaws 65 – 79 Arrows
All 8 players got on the scoresheet Zak 2, Matt & Ben S 3, Ben G 4, Lewis 5, Dom & Ethan 6, Cam 17, Toby 19. Great job guys against a strong 12 man Arrows squad….
