Outlaws Senor Men Fall to Hyson Green for the 2nd Time in 2 Weeks

This Sunday saw the Outlaws senior men 1sts take on Hyson Green for the second time this season, after losing out to the same team in the cup just 2 weeks prior.

Knowing what the Hustlers team could do, the Outlaws set about being stronger on defence, aiming to stop the inside presence of the teams best player Dan Wong, who last outing scored 36 against the Outlaws.

Knowing that Hyson would try and get their points from the inside, the Outlaws led with a man to man style offence and switched to a zone later, as their usual half zonal based defence ‘house’ leaves a gap at the top of the key, something the team were aware of.

Responding to the Outlaws change in defence, the Hustlers opted to take an extra step backwards. Starting their offence with penetration into the paint instead of passing into a post player, drawing outlaws fouls and putting the squad in foul trouble late in the second quarter. Hyson players Thompson and Wong combined for 53 points between them, with 50 of those coming from inside the paint or at the line.

Positives should be drawn from this game for the Outlaws too, although they were missing their top scorer in James Wood, the Outlaws still represented themselves, with varied scoring coming from everyone on the teamsheet. Josh Turner and Daniel Tanser leading the scoring on the night with an array of mid range shots and post-moves.

The rest of the team shot well too, with Chip Humphreys scoring his usual points from 3, Jordan Briggs getting some great looks and rebounds, Garry Walters finding himself in room and providing valuable spacing, Gareth Keeling getting some great fast break layups and Liam Hayman Tansley grabbing huge boards and running the teams offence.

The Outlaws MVP and Dave-Winner was Tom Goshawk, who did not score any three pointers this game, but instead showcased some outstanding passing and threw in a fair few points too

Final Score 83 – 70
