Outlaws U14 fall short to Nottingham Nova
The mighty Outlaws faced another strong national league team today in the form of Nottingham Nova, who have always been a tough team to beat. The boys continue to show hard work and dedication in every game they play and the effort at training throughout the season is starting to bare small rewards.
For the first time this season the scoring was opened by one of our boys. Skipper Archie Capel (15) scored from the line following great defence under our basket and a b-line drive on the counter. Nova were to respond with 3 hard earned baskets as the defensive rebounding challenges of the outlaws today was admirable. The team’s defensive efforts continued to shine throughout the first quarter with great determination from Harry Ford (6). Showing us, he’s not letting anything get past him without a challenge.
The second quarter saw more of the same intensity of play from both teams. Outlaws again opened the scoring via a basket from Elliott Lawrence (14), who made double figure points today. Offensively Nova continued to be effective but that didn’t faze the likes of the outlaws who continued to attack the basket. The quarter ended with Outlaws going to the line for the 6th time.
After the half time break, Nova came out strong and were able to bolster their lead by 24 points. But yet again, the outlaws were always eager to get back out on the court and showed great resilience.
Outlaws scored back-to-back baskets at the start of the fourth quarter however, Nova’s efforts did not rest and were able to respond with some steals and fast break attacks. Ollie Hubbard (4) who is playing up an age group, managed to get onto the score sheet and continued to provide assists in our highest scoring quarter.
Today was Isaac Caddy’s first national league game, his first competitive basketball game for that matter. He demonstrated superb confidence walking out onto the court and gave it everything he had. Every player on the Outlaws team sheet including Isaac Scott (13), Elvin Wilson (10) and Owen Merriman (11) had something positive to take away from the game. There is still a long way to go but as a team we continue to develop.
