A fine performance from the Senior Women on Wednesday 21 October produced a valuable one point victory over Hoods in their first outing in the Main Marian League this season.

The 50 – 49 win was the result of a fine team performance in which everyone played their part and the team produced easily their best and most productive performance of the season from beginning to end.

Becci Carter opened the scoring and continued to lead the way in every aspect of the game, especially her 18 point total.

Next to score was Morag McIvor and she was back to her best form, leading fast breaks and popping up for vital offensive rebounds and put backs. Second highest scorer with 14.

The team played a good tight 2-1-2 zone throughout but nearly paid the price for that as Paula Bailey (19 pts)and Julie Cannell hurt them from outside, Cannell’s 15 points came from 5 x 3 pointers. The women are still in the process of getting other defences out of hibernation…..

Although Hoods had the game’s two high scorers Outlaws had greater depth as 8 of their 9 players scored.

Hoods took the first quarter 12 – 10. The second was tied 8 all but Outlaws stormed away to win the 3rd 20 – 7 with some fine outside shooting and great transition.

They relaxed in the 4th allowing Hoods back in. At 49 – 48 to Hoods with 7 seconds remaining Carter was fouled on a shot and made both to be up 50 – 49. They played canny defence to the in bounds play from a Hoods following a Hoods time – out to deny any shot.

Hoods took that quarter by 20 – 10 but Carter took it from them with her 8 points of Outlaws 10, 4 points coming from free throws.
