Another great team display sees U16 Ilkeston Outlaws bring home the win.

Outlaws matched up against local rivals Notts Nova on Saturday 4th November in the East Mids National League. We were missing our big man Brad and gave a National League debut to Thierry.

In a change to our normal defence the Outlaws started with a full court man. After a quick basket from the tip the Outlaws squeezed the Nova team into repeated turnovers scoring 8 unanswered points in the first minute. Nova were forced into a timeout and personnel change and began to slowly claw their way back into the game. Outlaws forced their way to the line on numerous occasions, however failed to convert (3 from 9), allowing Nova to push ahead and take the 1st quarter 19 – 22.

A strong start to the 2nd quarter again saw outlaws go on a 8pt unanswered run before allowing Nova a basket. Again poor shooting from the line (0 from 6) prevented us from capitalising but the half finished 31 – 28.

The third quarter was an evenly matched affair. Outlaws allowed far too many easy drives and uncontested shots, however our pushing game started to catch Nova on the fast break, with great running from Dom, Henry and Dan. 3rd quarter finished 51 – 45.

Final qrt was a great effort as Outlaws continued to push, only allowing Nova to score twice in the first 5 minutes and then not again all quarter. We continued to push the ball well and score fast break after fast break.

Final score 70 vs 50.

As I have been saying all season this is a good all round team, with effort and baskets coming from every part of the squad. Special mention must go to the outlaws u16 top scorer Dom Porteous (25pts) who did not stop running all game. This was possible however as other players ran with him, taking defenders away from the play. Will and Ben had a great time on the boards, with Will giving extra effort by hustling back on defence and attempting to draw charges and stop defenders from getting easy baskets, whether the team got the calls or not.
